Federally retired individuals can apply for any position for which they are qualified. As such, you will need to apply as any other candidate as you do not have any priority in being hired. Some positions require your salary be offset by the amount of your annuity and some positions are exempt from that requirement. The Secretary of Defense was granted the authority to reemploy annuitants without a reduction in pay or of the annuity. Be sure and check with the agency where you are wanting to work to see if the position you are applying for is exempt from the salary offset.

The agency determines which positions are exempt.
