Can I Defer Gov Civ Retirement and While Receiving Active Duty Military Retirement?

I’m currently on orders as an AGR (ANG/Title 32). As a civilian I have been employed for almost 9 yrs. Additionally, I bought back 11 yrs of military service. Long story short, can I elect to have a deferred retirement while still on orders when I hit 20 yrs this fall? If so, what affect would it have on me if I become eligible to receive an active duty retirement after I defer civ retirement?

You only file for a deferred annuity when eligible. If you stay long enough to draw an active duty retirement, your previously deposited military service will be refunded which means you only have 9 years of creditable service but that is still enough for a deferred annuity.
