Re-enrollment after cancelling FEHB benefits

I am a federal retiree and my wife and I are covered under FEHB. If my wife wants to enroll in a Medicare Advantage insurance (or some other insurance) and cancels her FEHB insurance (and I change coverage to self only), can she re-enroll in my FEHB insurance provider if she is dissatisfied with her insurance? I understand that If I cancel my FEHB, I can never re-enroll (except for special circumstances).

If you are the only federal retiree in this situation, then you can change plans and/or options every open season. Thus can you drop her from your plan this open season and reenroll her next open season, as an example. However, what you need to be concerned with is if you pass away while she is on her own plan and not enrolled in your FEHB policy and you have elected a survivor benefit for her, she will not be eligible to re-enroll in your FEHB after your death as she was not on your plan on the date of your death.

Thank you, I had not thought about it that way. Makes sense as long as I stay vertical!
