Does a break in service matter for MRA +10?

Answer Question

Consider a FERS employee who worked for 15 years and then resigned at the age of 50. He is then reemployed in a FERS position at the age of 57, works for one year and then retires at 58. Is this employee eligible under MRA +10? Would he be eligible to continue FEHB if he was covered continuous for all of his service? Is this a way to turn what would be a deferred retirement into an immediate one?

You are spot on with your analysis! And yes, as long as they had FEHB for the last 4 years before resigning and the final year of work, they will be able to take FEHB into retirement.
