I have 4 yrs 11 months time as a GS 12 and 4 yrs of military time that I bought back. I left the govt ten years ago. Can I draw a small retirement at 62?

In order to qualify for a retirement, you must be vested. This means you needed 5 years of civilian service. Since you only have 4 years 11 months, you do not meet the minimum service requirement. Should you return to federal service and reach the five year mark, your retirement will then be based on your total service which will include your military service since your deposit was satisfied.

I certainly didn’t know that at the time—yikes! Thanks much for your quick answer. In returning to the federal service to make up my month, will any job do?
